MEDALEN
Angus & Quarter Horse Ranch
Medalen Angus & Quarter Horse Ranch is located 6 miles north of Towner, ND. The Mouse River runs through our home quarter.
We feel very blessed to raise cattle and horses and to be able to see them for use in other ranching operations.
ABOUT US
Our cow herd has grown from what started as an FFA project. Three heifer calves were purchased from Harold Tastad in December of 1980. Additional females were purchased from several sources over the next ten years. All cattle were sold by private treaty until 2008 when we had our first open house bull sale.
Our operation is located on very sandy soil, but with a high water table. Normal annual rainfall for this area is 15″. When we get enough rain or snow we have the ability to raise a lot of grass and hay. A normal year allows us to graze from May 15 to November 15. We try to graze as long as possible each year and some year’s get to December 10th.
Medalen Ranch is proud to be an AQHA Ranching Heritage Breeder.
Nikki’s family has been raising Quarter Horses since 1969, focusing on moderately framed ranch horses that are trainable, athletic and pretty enough for the show pen. As AQHA Ranch Heritage Breeders, it is important to us that our horses are used in all aspects of ranching, rodeo, and in the show arena, assuring that while we hold true to their Foundation bloodlines, we are keeping up with modern uses and proving their talents. Nikki became an AQHA Director in February of 2023.
